Don’t Miss Out on Halloween

If you have diabetes, that doesn’t mean that you have to miss out on the Halloween treats that the fall season brings. Kids all around are going to be gorging and going crazy with the sweets. But those diagnosed with diabetes need to be more careful. As a parent, a few options to keep teeth and health happy are:

1. Consider giving away alternatives to candy, such as trail mix or popcorn when trick-or-treaters come to the door.
2. Donate some of the candy that your child receives to a local children’s hospital.
3. Take the trick-or-treat bag at the end of the night, and portion out your child’s candy throughout the upcoming months to fit it all into his/her mealplan.

This is a great time of year for kids to enjoy. Parents and their kids can work together to make sure that all of their fun can be had while staying healthy.

Children with Diabetes

I found a great website called Children with Diabetes. Children with Diabetis is a great site about…you guessed it, children with diabetes. The web pages are dedicated to developing and increasing the awareness of diabetes, especially in children. There is a lot of good information for the families of children with diabetes so the environment of the children can remain supportive and positive. Children with Diabetes Inc. has also recently joined the Johnson and Johnson family of companies as part of the Diabetes Franchise. Take a gander at the site when you get a second.
